How to wash satin jacquard

When the pattern is woven rather than printed, what protects it is temperature and spin — not detergent.

On a jacquard loom the pattern is made from the thread itself, not from dye. That means it will not wash out — and also that the relief can be crushed. What needs protecting is not the colour but the surface.

Washing

40°C, gentle cycle, low spin. Fill the drum only halfway: the cloth needs room to open as it turns, and jacquard that is packed in creases. Turn the set inside out and close any pillowcase zips.

No bleach and no optical brighteners; they break the cotton fibre. Skip the softener too — it leaves a film on the surface, dulls the satin sheen and reduces absorbency.

Drying and ironing

Line drying in shade is best. Direct sun yellows cream and beige tones. If you use a dryer, keep it on low and take the set out while still slightly damp.

Iron while slightly damp, from the reverse, at medium heat. Pressing straight onto the relief flattens the pattern — this is where the difference actually shows.
